Triebold and Lajoie Win AuSable Race

They nearly won it in 2003.  They did win it in 2004.  One of them won last year, too.

And this year, at the 61st Weyerhaeuser AuSable River Canoe Marathon, Andy Triebold of Spring Arbor, Michigan and Steve Lajoie of Mirabel, Quebec, the pre-race favorites going into the 120-mile overnight canoe race, won it again.  The pair paddled the fabled Michigan event in 14 hours, nine minutes, and six seconds to win the grueling race by nearly 25 minutes.

Matt Streib of Bristol, Indiana and Steve Kolonich of Eaton Rapids, Michigan were second with a time of 14:32.31.

The Triebold/Lajoie duo won the 2004 title after finishing as the runners-up in 2003.  Triebold teamed with Matt Rimer of Grayling, Michigan to win the race last year.  The weekend before this year’s marathon, the pair won Spike’s Challenge, a short race down the AuSable River on the first part of the marathon course.
