River Trip on the Zumbro Benefits Youth Scholarship

13 May

Looking forward to your first paddle of the season? We learned about a great way to get back on the water and make your first canoe trip of the summer a meaningful event—by joining the 1st Annual Christopher Schmidt Wilderness Adventure Fundraiser on Saturday, May 16.

The event features a group paddle down a 10-mile stretch of the Zumbro River in southeastern Minnesota. Paddlers can join the float down the Zumbro in exchange for a $25 donation to the Christopher Schmidt Wilderness Adventure Scholarship, established to “provide funds to any youth, who wish to participate in outdoor activities led by qualified leaders of organizations, that allow them to experience the natural world, through trips, programs or activities.”

Special guests include renowned canoe author Kevin Callan, whose book  Quetico and Beyond and photographs are included in a Canoeing.com feature story on Quetico Provincial Park, HERE,  and Minnesota Canoe Association President, Tom Mings. The event also includes a shuttle service, a paddling clinic, a gear swap and a get together at Chester Woods after the paddle, where food will be provided.
