Minnesota Writer Imagines Geologic Time

30 Jul

We enjoyed a recent column by Minnesota’s Duluth News-Tribune outdoor writer Sam Cook so much, we wanted to share it with you.

Cook, on a canoe trip in Ontario’s Quetico Provincial Park, climbs out of his tent on a moonlit night and steps into a different way of looking at the world.

“It was possible, standing there, to imagine the throw of geologic time, to imagine the groan of glaciers and the grunts of woolly mammoth,” he writes.  “It was possible to conceive of a time when the moonlight bathed this land and cast no human shadows.”
