May I See Your Ticket, Passport, and Canoe?

In what appears to be an effort to differentiate itself from British Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airways, owned by mogul-adventurer and current Outside magazine cover subject Richard Branson, has renewed its commitment to allowing adventurers to travel with their equipment … including hang-gliders, surfboards, kayaks, and, yes, canoes.

British Airways recently disallowed such items as checked baggage on its flights, according to THIS Boston Globe story.  Virgin continues to let fliers check one piece of large sports equipment at no charge, as long as the equipment meets certain weight and length qualifications.
