Lost Canoeist Reappears After Five Years

4 Dec

See latest update below …

In a story still unfolding in England, a man thought to have perished in a canoeing accident more than five years ago has suddenly reappeared.

John Darwin had apparently set out from his home near Hartlepool, England in March 2002 to paddle on the North Sea. He was never located after his canoe was found smashed on rocks nearby. That is, until he presented himself at a London police station recently saying, “I think I am a missing person.”

Darwin, 57, was able to give his name, date of birth, and address but said he had no idea where he had been since disappearing.

New twists to the puzzling story — which now include his wife’s recent relocation to Panama, rumors of mounting debts for Darwin preceding the disappearance, and bank account activity in Darwin’s name since 2002 — seem to come with each published report.

We recommend reading THIS story in the Evening Standard for the latest.

We’ll keep you posted on how the bizarre story resolves itself.

Update … The BBC reports HERE that missing canoeist John Darwin was arrested today on charges of fraud.  Darwin’s arrest comes as the Daily Mirror tabloid published a photo, HERE, allegedly showing Darwin and his wife together in Panama last year.
