Canoecopia Opens on Friday

11 Mar

Madison, Wisconsin’s grand, late-winter canoe rendezvous is about to commence.

Canoecopia, the globe’s largest paddlesport expo, opens this Friday and runs through the weekend at the Alliant Energy Center on the outskirts of Wisconsin’s capitol city. The gathering features educational presentations by some of the world’s best-known paddlers, information on trips and programs from a spectrum of outfitters and paddling schools, and, of course, all the latest and greatest in boats, paddles, and paddling gear for sale.

There’s so much to enjoy on the Canoecopia expo floor and at the various presentations — Canoecopia will also feature three paddling film premieres! — that’s it’s tough to settle on even a few highlights. The energetic Cliff Jacobson will surly draw big crowds talking about the “The Forgotten Skills” and how to bear-proof your camps. We’re also interested to hear about Allan Barsema’s talk “Solo at 60 – Atikokan to Ely,” as well as John Lynn’s stories about paddling the Ohio River and the Erie Canal.

In addition, Canoeing.com contributor Rob Kesselring will offer a timely presentation on paddling in the far north on a budget.
