Brothers Finish 740-Mile Beginning

For most people, completing a trip over the 740-mile-long Northern Forest Canoe Trail would call for some well deserved rest and relaxation. For the brothers Boone of Indianola, Iowa, however, the trip from Old Forge, New York to Fort Kent, Maine merely marked the beginning of an epic journey they’re in the midst of undertaking.
As described in THIS Bangor Daily News story, Adam and Andy Boone’s completion of the NFCT is only the first stage of a staggeringly ambitious plan to trace a giant, self-propelled “U” across the United States.
The pair is about to trade canoe paddles for hiking boots for a hike to Georgia on the Appalachian Trail. Then — since they’ll have covered a mere 3,000 miles under their own power at that point — they’ll mount bicycles for a ride to New Mexico, where they’ll hike the Grand Enchantment Trail to Arizona. Once they’ve completed the 700-mile Grand Enchantment Trail leg, they’ll pedal on to California and hike 2,650 miles from the Mexican border to its Canadian counterpart via the Pacific Crest Trail.
And then they’ll take some time to rest!
The Bangor Daily News story offers details on some of the challenges the duo faced on the NFCT. The Boones’ trip reminded us of Jason Bivin who last year hiked and paddled the NFCT and Appalachian Trails.
