Author David Pelly Headlines Toronto Symposium

12 Feb

David Pelly, author of the 2008 book The Old Way North, will headline this weekend’s Wilderness Canoe Symposium in Toronto.  The 24th-annual gathering of wilderness and arctic paddlers is sponsored by Canada’s Wilderness Canoe Association.

Pelly’s presentation, entitled “The Old Way North – stories of the northern landscape surrounding Oberholtzer and Magee’s 1912 route to Hudson Bay,” is one of a weekend’s worth of talks and slideshows at the symposium which began in 1986 as a living-room gathering of expedition paddlers hosted by George Luste.

Other notable presenters at this year’s event include Alan Patterson, the son of Dangerous River author R.M. Patterson, Jay Morrison, who recently completed a multi-year crossing of Canada by canoe, and Aaju Peter, a Inuit right advocate born in Arkisserniaq, Greenland who now resides in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
