A Short Trip in the Okefenokee

15 Jan

“Try not to canoe under any cypress branches,” an Okefenokee Swamp park ranger tells Michael and Brendon Dolan before they set out on their paddle last summer.

“Snakes have a tendency to hang out over the water and drop down into your canoe to hitch a ride,” he continues in Michael Dolan’s Philadelphia Enquirer story HERE about the paddling trip the brothers are about to commence.

“Bees,” the ranger adds.  “Hope you guys aren’t allergic to bees. You’ll see 2- to 3-foot-wide beehives throughout the trek. You might wanna stay clear of ’em.”

Add alligators, rattlesnakes, and bears to the ranger’s litany — oh, and a looming thunderstorm — and try to guess what happens with these teenage paddlers?
