Nova Craft Introduces New Line of Whitewater Canoes

10 Jan

It’s officially 2013–that means we can all start planning our summer canoe trips without being labeled overachievers (although really, if we did start planning in December, what’s wrong with that?). It’s the perfect time of year to start thinking routes and big gear purchases, like canoes.

If you’re a white water paddler, Nova Craft just introduced a new line of whitewater canoes that includes the Moisie and the Ocoee. We wrote about the Moisie HERE, but both will be available in Royalex and Royalex Plus, and in May, one lucky paddler between the ages of 14 and 21 will have a chance to win an Ocoee.

The Moisie
The Moisie is a tandem whitewater canoe inspired from an original Steve Scarborough design. It’s extremely responsive under the toughest conditions, it’s perfect for any water setting and will keep you dry with a big load.  At 16’ 6”, the Moisie comes standard with vinyl gunwales and weighs in at 64 lbs. in Royalex and 77 lbs. in Royalex Plus.

The Ocoee
The Ocoee is a solo whitewater canoe based on a Frankie Hubbard OC1 design. The Ocoee’s flexibility is remarkable for creeking and general river running, and we’re told it’s also an outstanding OC1 for slalom. With practice the Ocoee is definitely a canoe that anyone can handle.  Ocoee is 11’ 3”, comes standard with vinyl gunwales and weighs in at 38 lbs. in Royalex and 44 lbs. in Royalex Plus.

The Frank Hubbard Award
The Ocoee will be given as a prize for the annual Frank Hubbard Award, given in May of each year. This award is for the recognition of anyone between the ages of 14 to 21 who stands out within the paddling community. Nova Craft dealers, outfitters, ambassadors and partners can nominate a young person between the ages of 14 and 21 for standing out in the paddling community. Nominations are due by April 15th, and Nova Craft’s committee of industry leaders will review the submissions and select the winner.

Nova Craft has a tradition of reaching out to younger audiences (You can read a Canoeing.com article about that tradition HERE)–help them keep the canoeing tradition alive and well, and nominate someone today. Contact Nova Craft HERE for more information about the canoes and the award.
